J&P Turner Limited was established in 1994 by brothers Jeffery and Peter Turner and is the parent company of the J&P Turner Group, a diversified international business specialising in fresh produce, flowers, and associated marketing, trading, and supply chain services.

The Turner family’s involvement in the produce industry spans multiple generations, beginning with their great-grandfather Edward Turner, who established Turners Mart (later Turners and Growers) in New Zealand in the 1890s after emigrating from England. The family’s broader heritage in produce extends further back to Cambridge in the 1600s, reflecting a long-standing association with agriculture and trade.

In 1995, the family’s previous business interests were taken over by offshore investors. Following this change, members of the Turner family chose to re-establish an independent operation. In the same year, Fresh Direct was founded from a small base in Mt Albert, forming the foundation of the current group.

Since then, the business has expanded into a portfolio of complementary divisions including Fresh Direct Floral, Purefresh Organic, JP Exports, CentralPac, Central Orchard Management, Willowtree Produce, Quality Produce Packers, and Turners International Marketing.

While each business operates with a clear and defined focus, the group remains united by a consistent set of principles: a commitment to quality produce, strong systems and controls, and a focus on long-term partnerships.

Across all operations, the culture is underpinned by integrity, hard work, reliability, and a commitment to delivering consistent outcomes for growers, customers, and partners alike.
